Pye of Tryon, and editor of the Winthrop College literary maga zine, The Journal was one of the honored students to have lunch with Joyce Cary, English novelist, who gave a lecture at the college on Tuesday. Cary said, “History may relate the facts, but it is only from the additional study of the works of novelists, descriptive writers, and better newspaper re porters that an understanding can come of the people of a period in history.” HOSPITAL NEWS New patients at St. Luke’s Hos pital include Mrs. E. Two Firemen Honored The Landrum Fire Department gave a steak supper Tuesday night at the Landrum Firemen’s hall in honor of two of their members who are moving out of the town. F. M. Hart, Landrum agriculture teacher, has accepted a position with the Epworth Orphanage at Columbia, and F. M. Littlefield has moved to his new home in the country. Both firemen were presented farewell gifts by the firemen and expressions of appreciation of their service to the community, j Fire Chief P. C. Lancaster is re ! questing the support of all citizens [ in making a success of Fire Pre vention Week next week, by mak ing a thorough check-up of their premises and aiding the firemen with inspections. Moss New Superintendent i Methodist Sunday School ! Walter D. Moss Jr., will be the new superintendent of the Tryon I Methodist Sunday School when Promotion and Rally Day is held next Sunday morning at io o’clock. Mr. Moss, who has been active j in church work since moving to I Tryon ' and prior to that at Mt. I Airy, succeeds Dr. C. W. McCall, who has held the office for the past 11 years. Promotion of various students to higher classes and a general rally of the spiritual forces of the church school will be held and all members of the church and friends are invited, says Dr. Mc ; Call. Mrs. Everett D. Mitchell has returned to Asheville after a visit in Tryon with Mrs. F. W. Sprague on Pine Crest Lane.
